Joni Ernst’s SOTU Response Doesn’t Respond to Obama’s Speech
Brand-new Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) was selected to give the GOP’s State of the Union response Tuesday night. It got released before Obama was even 1/3 of the way thorugh his speech, because her remarks don’t actually respond to it.
“A few moments ago, we heard the President lay out his vision for the year to come,” Ernst is expected to say, according to the pre-released transcript. “Rather than respond to a speech, I’d like to talk about your priorities. I’d like to have a conversation about the new Republican Congress you just elected, and how we plan to make Washington focus on your concerns again.”
Ernst criticized Obamacare as a “failed policy” while pushing Keystone XL and tax reform.
“The President has already expressed some support for these kinds of ideas,” she said. “We’re calling on him now to cooperate to pass them.”
