Journalists Outraged By Report Chris Cuomo Advised Brother Andrew on Scandals

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is facing criticism on Thursday over his reported collaboration with brother Andrew Cuomo and staff on how to respond to the sexual harassment allegations made against the governor in the last few months.
“Cuomo, one of the network’s top stars, joined a series of conference calls that included the Democratic governor’s top aide, his communications team, lawyers and a number of outside advisers, according to the people familiar with the conversations, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private sessions,” the Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey and Sarah Ellison reported Thursday.
Shortly after the report was published, some journalists on social media either called for Cuomo’s ouster, or expressed surprise that it hasn’t already happened.
The Chris Cuomo story is a story of power. Any junior level staffer who moonlighted as a political adviser would see their job suspended or gone. It’s also a story of editorial distinctions. At Fox, the hosts were advising Trump so often it became it’s own story genre.

if most journalists did what Chris Cuomo did, our asses would be out the door and we would be shamed to never return. CNN is protecting Cuomo. https://t.co/m2txxkOfxl

I mean, how do you allow him to continue hosting a show at this point?
And if you do, how does any woman who experienced sexual harassment and assault even think about going on this show?https://t.co/bavpWiZg9p

How many non-ethically-challenged journalists could CNN hire using Chris Cuomo’s $6,000,000/year salary?
This would be a fireable offense in many newsrooms. https://t.co/gF4aGH2Ya7

Seems pretty certain that if a lower-level CNN employee had done this, they’d be fired https://t.co/sx02Ae1pmH

“The network said Cuomo will not be disciplined.”
He should get fired for this. It’s hardly an innocent mistake. He doesn’t think the ordinary rules apply to him. https://t.co/WxOX5SPXUj

can’t stop thinking abt how Chris Cuomo gets paid millions & can blatantly violate journalistic ethics w/o consequence while thousands of honest, hardworking journalists just get laid off https://t.co/fOpQne8bbw

to be fair how could you possibly discipline a guy for clearly violating journalistic ethics when you encouraged him to do it last year https://t.co/QifCwYn8sr

There were many other similar reactions among members of the media and those who write about media.
