Judge Shuts Down Emergency Motion by Crist to Keep Polls Open in FL County
Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist filed an emergency motion earlier tonight to keep the polls open in Broward County. The motion filed by Crist and the Broward Democratic Party says that there were some “system breakdowns” they wanted to address.
Specifically, there was a polling station at an elementary school that they say was not working properly for 90 minutes, which caused problems for residents who came out to vote. The motion also reads [PDF] that the system failed “throughout the day” across the county, and that voters were confused because of redistricting.
They went to the Broward Supervisor of Elections to extend voting until 9:00 EST tonight, but she turned them down. And now, a judge has officially rejected their request:
Judge Tuter rejected Crist motion at 7:50 said Mike Ryan, lawyer for Dem Party.
