Justice Antonin Scalia: The Constitution Is ‘Dead, Dead, Dead’
The Constitution is not a “living document,” according to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. It’s “dead, dead, dead.”
Scalia offered his perspective while speaking at Southern Methodist University. “It’s not a living document,” he said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “It’s dead, dead, dead.”
He further remarked on the importance of keeping distance between legal interpretations and personal views on issues. (As for himself, he said he hasn’t “expressed my views” on gun control and gay marriage.)
“The judge who always likes the results he reaches is a bad judge,” Scalia said.
He appeared alongside Bryan A. Garner, a law professor at SMU.
