Kim Kardashian Praises Trump For Commuting Alice Johnson’s Sentence: ‘Gives Hope to So Many Others’

Alice Marie Johnson‘s life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense was commuted by President Trump today, and one of the key reasons why is Kim Kardashian.
Kardashian took up Johnson’s cause after watching a Mic video, and she subsequently took her advocacy all the way to the White House. She met with the President last week and her efforts have turned out to be successful (though there’s reporting others in the White House weren’t in favor of the idea).
Kardashian tweeted in response to the news today, thanking both President Trump and Jared Kushner:
BEST NEWS EVER!!!! ?????? https://t.co/JUbpbE1Bk0

So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance.

I hope to continue this important work by working together with organizations who have been fighting this fight for much longer than I have and deserve the recognition.

Kardashian, it turns out, was the one who broke the news to Johnson today:
The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories. Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget.

The White House statement on Johnson says, “While this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance.”
