Muammar Gaddafi’s Son Saif Al-Arab, Three Grandsons Killed In NATO Strike
A senior Libyan official has confirmed to Reuters that Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, youngest son of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed in a NATO strike. Other reports from AP confirm that Gaddafi the elder was also in the home, as well as three grandchildren; however, he escaped injury.
As the news just broke minutes ago, the only confirmations of the news come via Twitter, where @BreakingNews confirmed his death:
BBC News reports more details: the house in question was a “large residential villa”– thus explaining Muammar Gaddafi’s survival, and journalists are reporting that the strike was heaving, leaving the building “extensively damaged” with one unexploded bomb still in the area. They also have some official comments:
Government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said the villa was attacked “with full power.”
“The attack resulted in the matyrdom of brother Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, 29 years old, and three of the leader’s grandchildren,” he said.
“The leader with his wife was there in the house with other friends and relatives, the leader himself is in good health, he wasn’t harmed.”
“This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country,” the spokesman added.
