Man Arrested After Brandishing Gun At Alabama Immigration Rally, Yelling ‘Womp Womp’
A man identified as Shane Ryan Sealy protested at a rally in Huntsville, AL against President Donald Trump‘s “zero tolerance” immigration policy by shouting “womp womp” over a prayer.
The phrase was popularized recently by former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who said he meant to direct it at Democratic strategist Zac Petkanas, but at the time, Petkanas was talking about a mother being briefly separated from her young daughter with Down Syndrome, making it sound as if Lewandowski was mocking the situation.
Lewandowski refused to apologize for the comment.
At the rally in Huntsville, Sealy, a former high school teacher, appropriated the slur against illegal immigrants, as he yelled that and “ICE ICE Baby,” in support of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The protesters gathered in Huntsville were part of rallies and marches across the country Saturday to speak out against Trump’s policies. Once Sealy pulled out a gun, a protester yelled to alert people and the police swiftly arrived to arrest him.
