Massachusetts Democrats Greet Obama… With Protests
Supporters of Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA) who is running in a special election to replace former Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) will receive a visit from President Barack Obama on Thursday. Obama’s visit to the Bay State was not, however, met with a warm welcome from Markey’s supporters. NBC News Reporter Shawna Thomas notes that Obama’s visit is being protested by Democrats opposed to the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline.
“Markey supporters protesting POTUS outside the campaign event,” Thomas wrote on Twitter.
Most of the Keystone XL pipeline’s construction has not yet been approved.
The State Department began a review of the project in the summer of 2011 noting that they were likely to give the project a passing environmental impact grade. In March of this year, however, the Environmental Protection Agency noted that State’s environmental impact report was “insufficient,” further postponing the pipeline’s construction.
