McCain: Donald Trump’s Scandals Have Reached ‘Watergate Size and Scale’

Evidently, Senator John McCain has joined the chorus of those saying that James Comey‘s memo has escalated President Trump‘s latest controversy to Nixonian levels of seriousness.

“I think it’s reaching the point where it’s of Watergate size and scale, and a couple of other scandals we’ve seen,” McCain said. “The shoe continues to drop, and every couple of days, there’s a new aspect of this really unhappy situation.”

McCain was speaking to CBS News’ Bob Schieffer as he was about to receive an award during the International Republican Institute’s 2017 Freedom Dinner. McCain said that Trump’s new scandal is not “good for America” and is a major interruption for Republican efforts to move forward with their agenda under the new administration.

The Daily Beast reports that McCain went on to tell Schieffer that he would tell Trump “the same thing that you advised Richard Nixon, which he didn’t do – get it all out – it’s not going to be over until every aspect of it is thoroughly examined and the American people make a judgment. And the longer you delay, the longer it’s going to last.”

The memo states that Trump asked his former FBI director to end his probe into Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia. Before details of the memo came out, McCain said it was “deeply disturbing” for him to learn that Trump gave highly-classified information to the Russian officials who he hosted at the White House last week.
