Mediaite Presents Our Favorite Christmas Holiday-Themed Movies
The Sound of Music – Mediaite Editor-at-Large Rachel Sklar
The Sound of Music is my favorite holiday movie, hands down. I remember watching it as a kid every year during the holidays, and its message of family and principle and making out in rain-soaked gazebos stayed with me. (It’s funny how much Liesl resonated – I, too, always want to stay and have my first champagne. And then my second.)
As a kid growing up both Jewish and Canadian, I don’t remember much of “Miracle on 34th Street” or “It’s A Wonderful Life” (which, eep, I’ve never seen, though I have seen the SNL take-off sketch) – I do remember seeing “A Christmas Carol” and always watched Rudolph and The Grinch – but The Sound of Music was always a constant, and will always be one of my faves, and I will watch it this year whenever Twitter tells me it is on.
