NBC Reports Russia Successfully Hacked Pentagon Computers

NBC reports that Russia has successfully hacked the Pentagon’s email server.

“U.S. officials tell NBC News that Russia launched a ‘sophisticated cyberattack’ against the Pentagon’s Joint Staff unclassified email system, which has been shut down and taken off line for nearly two weeks.

According to the officials, the ‘sophisticated cyber intrusion’ occurred sometime around July 25 and affected some 4,000 military and civilian personnel work for the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” the breaking story reads in its entirity.

The intrusion comes in the wake of a massive hack of the Office of Personnel Management and the theft of the personal information of more than 22 million federal employees. Chinese hackers are suspected to have carried out that attack.
