New York Congressional Ad Rails Against Typical ‘Politicians’ Like Obama and… Rob Ford
When you hear the phrase “typical Washington politician,” does Rob Ford come to mind? It shouldn’t, because 1) Rob Ford is Canadian and therefore irrelevant to Washington politics, and 2) wow is typical the wrong adjective for this guy. And yet, a new ad released by a congressional candidate in New York attempts to lump his opponent in with the same old politicians people are tired of, like President Obama and… Rob Ford.
The ad was put out by the campaign for George Demos, a former SEC prosecutor and Republican in the race to defeat Democratic Congressman Tim Bishop. In a new ad titled One of Us, Demos is contrasted with Bishop and other politicians to convey the message that he himself is “not a politician” (ever notice how the politicians who aren’t incumbents always say they’re not politicians?).
The ad shows three examples of such politicians: Bishop, President Obama, and Rob Ford. It could be that they struggled to think of a politician to complete the trifecta, but instead of going with a safe choice like Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi, the ad settles on the crack-smoking mayor that, let’s face it, no one is tired of yet.
