Newtown, CT Church Evacuated After Threat: ‘I’m Coming To Kill’
Just two days after a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the mourning community was rocked by a violent threat called in to their church. A man called St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church and told a monsignor, “I’m coming to kill, I’m coming to kill.”
The monsignor spoke to Ora. TV, which is live-streaming from church service and said the phone rang around 11:30 AM EST.
Police were called immediately. “The more this man was speaking the more the police were taking seriously,” said the church’s monsignor.
“All of a sudden all of the police cars came flying up and one police officer said very disgustedly that it’s probably nothing but some jerk called in and made a threat and we have to evacuate,” said a church parishioner. “So they went in and evacuated it.”
The church was quickly cleared. Over a dozen state troopers armed with assault rifles entered a home next to the church to determine next steps. The church was on lockdown until approximately 1:30 PM, when the “all clear” was given.
