Next Season of Homeland Will Take on ISIS, Putin, Charlie Hebdo, Basically Everything

homelandThe upcoming season of Homeland will take on lots of things that will make you go “oh, yeah, I remember that being a thing!”

Showtime revealed details about the hit national security show at the TCAs today, and according to Deadline, they’re cramming in quite a lot of things, from ISIS to Edward Snowden to Vladimir Putin to Charlie Hebdo to government surveillance to cyber-terrorism.

Whew.

First, it’s worth pointing out here that earlier this year, one of the show’s creators said that ISIS was “too evil” to tackle on the show.

But Showtime President David Nevins explained today, “The first episode’s going to deal with Russia — what’s Putin up to? What’s going on with this tricky relationship there? It deals with ISIS. Charlie Hebdo. Snowden, cyber terrorism, surveillance. These are interesting elements to the season, which brings a lot of things together.”

The season will be mainly set in Berlin, two years after the end of season 4, and the Putin storyline will focus on “what’s going on with Ukraine.”

So take that, people who watch TV as a way of escaping the depressing realities of life!
