NY Post Editorial Stuns Readers: Alec Baldwin ‘Has a Point’

The New York Post has not been the biggest ally to Alec Baldwin over the years. But in an editorial published online Tuesday night, the paper went out on a limb and defended the actor.
“We never thought we’d say so, but Alec Baldwin has a point,” the Post’s editorial board wrote.
On Tuesday, Baldwin was arrested in New York City for riding his bike the wrong way up Fifth Avenue and then failing to produce identification when he was stopped by police. After he was released, Baldwin went on a Twitter rant against the city, which included this message:
New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign.

After denouncing him for “mouthing off to the cops,” the Post wrote this about the arrest:
“Baldwin is right to resent what he called the ‘mismanaged carnival of stupidity’ that is New York — at least with regard to the selective enforcement of traffic laws on cyclists. Every day New Yorkers see thousands on bikers running red lights, cycling on sidewalks and in general making themselves a menace.
The only reason Baldwin got ticketed is that the NYPD was in the midst of a two-day crackdown on traffic infractions, particularly for drivers who text or fail to yield to pedestrians. Spend a few hours watching the number of traffic violations by bikes at any busy intersection and you’ll see why a two-day crackdown is a joke.”
The paper went on to say that Baldwin “has a case” when he says he was being unfairly signed out by police. “If the NYPD is going to ticket him for riding his bike the wrong way down a street, the cops should be writing hundreds of tickets every day for all those self-entitled New Yorkers who behave as a law unto themselves once they get atop their bicycle seats,” the editorial board concluded.
If Alec Baldwin and The New York Post can agree on something, that might just mean it’s true.
