Officer Charged in Freddie Gray’s Death Defends Legality of Arrest
One of the six Baltimore officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray filed a motion in court today defending the legality of Gray’s arrest. Gray’s confrontation with the police ended up with the 25-year-old dead while in police custody.
The AP is reporting that Officer Edward Nero is taking issue with State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby saying that the knife Gray had was legal.
Here’s how the AP explained his objection:
He argues in his motion that the knife found in Gray’s pocket — described in charging documents as “a spring assisted, one hand operated knife” — is illegal under stricter rules in Baltimore.
He filed the motion to get the knife publicly produced.
