Oliver Stone Calls On U.S. Military To End Its ‘War On Animals’

Director Oliver Stone veered into political territory recently with a strong message for the U.S. military. In a new video produced by PETA, Stone calls on the Department of Defense to stop using animals in military training drills.

“Each year, the U.S. military and its contractors shoot, stab, mutilate, and kill more than 10,000 live animals in crude cruel and trauma training exercises that are nothing like real battlefield conditions and don’t help soldiers save lives,” says Stone in the video, which then offers glimpses of footage of how goats have been treated for this purpose.

Adds Stone:

As a veteran, I believe that those who are willing to fight for our country need the best possible training. Giving them a goat who was dismembered with hedge trimmers is not it. In the 21st century, there are more humane and effective ways to train service members than violently dismembering live animals.

Among his suggestions are lifelike, human simulators that breathe and bleed — and are already used in military training. Stone directs viewers to PETA’s website, urging them to help end the “military’s war on animals.”
