Oliver Stone: Hurricane Sandy ‘Punishment’ For Obama, Romney Neglecting Climate Change Discussion

Director Oliver Stone reacted to Hurricane Sandy yesterday, and he didn’t shy away from being blunt. Arguing that both President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have largely avoided any real discussion about climate change, Stone noted the natural disaster is “punishment.”

“I was a little disappointed at the third debate when neither of them talked about climate control and the nature of the situation on Earth,” Stone told The Huffington Post. “I think there’s kind of a weird statement coming right after…this is a punishment…Mother Nature cannot be ignored. That’s all I thought about.”

Stone did nonetheless divulge that he voted early, and for the president — a decision he attributed to Obama’s rational thinking and debate performance. He also predicted Obama will win, and characterized a Romney White House as one that will mean “more militarism.”

Along those lines, Stone also spoke about the idea of American exceptionalism. “There’s this attitude that we deserve to be in charge,” he said. “I don’t believe in that…We act as if we have this right of kingship. We act as tyrants.”
