OMB Director Mulvaney Offers Democrats Obamacare Subsidy Payments in Exchange for Border Wall Funding
During an appearance on Bloomberg TV today, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney provided an offer to Democrats if they wanted Obamacare subsidies funded in the upcoming spending bill. What is it?
Pay for the border wall with Mexico.
Mulvaney pointed out that currently there’s something in the budget that Republicans dislike — Obamacare payments — and something Democrats hate, which is the border wall. Therefore, the White House offers that for every dollar spent on Obamacare, a dollar goes to the wall.
“That’s the offer we’ve given to our Democratic colleagues,” he said. “That should form the fundamental understanding that gets us to a bipartisan agreement.”
In response to Mulvaney’s offer, Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer’s spokesperson released a statement, mocking President Donald Trump for his campaign promises that Mexico would pay for the wall:

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson hit Mulvaney about his role in the 2013 budget fight and shutdown:

The White House and Congress need to come to a spending agreement by April 28th in order to avoid a government shutdown. Regarding this, Mulvaney stated today that Congress would most likely pass a short-term spending bill than face a shutdown.
