For a few months now, Ohio Republican congressional candidate Christina Hagan has been running an ad for her campaign about how she’ll drain the swamp, help President Donald Trump, and advocate for strong borders.
There’s just a slight problem: the clip she includes in her new campaign ad of illegal immigrants supposedly crossing the Mexican border…are actually crossing a completely different border.
A portion of the ad shows scores of people approaching a wall and supposedly invading America like no one’s business. However, CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski spotted the irregularity:
The footage this pro-Trump OH congressional candidate uses of people climbing a border wall – which the ad suggests is on the Mexican border – is actually migrants fleeing into Morocco. pic.twitter.com/p8m453HP7E

Politifact found that the footage originated from the Italian television network RepubblicaTV, and it shows a group of Moroccans pouring into Melilla, an autonomous Spanish-held enclave in North Africa. Interestingly enough, Trump used the exact same footage in one of his campaign ads, making no reference to the fact that it did not actually show Mexicans illegally pouring into the United States.
What was that saying about birds of a feather?
