Pope Francis Gets His Own Pop-Rock Album
Pope Francis‘ big visit to the United States is being supplemented today with the announcement of the Pontiff’s pop-rock album.
No, seriously.
There is an album coming to iTunes soon called Wake Up!, which combines hymns and speeches by the Pope with lots of musical accompaniment.
Don Giulio Neroni, the man tasked with setting the words of the Pope to music, told Rolling Stone, “I tried to be strongly faithful to the pastoral and personality of Pope Francis: the Pope of dialogue, open doors, hospitality. For this reason, the voice of Pope Francis in Wake Up! dialogues music. And contemporary music (rock, pop, Latin etc.) dialogues with the Christian tradition of sacred hymns.”
And really, when Pope Francis greeted Americans in D.C. and New York, he was treated like a rock star, so perhaps it’s only fitting to have an actual album.
