It looks like someone won’t be seen in the halls of Congress for much longer.
Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) lost his primary battle Tuesday night in the state’s 1st District to state legislator Katie Arrington, who received 50% of the vote which allows to avoid a run-off.
Just hours before polls closed in South Carolina, President Trump went after Sanford on Twitter while endorsing Arrington.
Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA. He is MIA and nothing but trouble. He is better off in Argentina. I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in SC, a state I love. She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes. VOTE Katie!

“Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA,” Trump tweeted. “He is MIA and nothing but trouble. He is better off in Argentina. I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in SC, a state I love. She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes. VOTE Katie!”
That Argentina line was in reference to his 2009 sex scandal which involved what was referred to as his “disappearance” to Argentina with his mistress, Argentine journalist Maria Belén Chapur.
Sanford was not MAGA enough to the president’s liking. Perhaps among other things, it was his weighing in on the Stormy Daniels controversy earlier this year (he found it “deeply troubling”) that may have made things bitter between the two men.
