Rick Sanchez Interviewer Speaks: Stewart And Colbert Complimented Him After

Pete Dominick was the host of the Sirius XM radio show that featured Rick Sancheznow-infamous rant – and he’s also now the Saturday afternoon CNN host of What The News.

Today Dominick talked about the circumstances surrounding Sanchez’ appearance that eventually led to his firing.

Dominick spent the first couple minutes of his show, Stand Up With Pete Dominick on POTUS Sirius Channel 110, talking about how he really didn’t want to talk about the interview from Thursday. But then he relented – and talked about it for seven minutes.

Dominick did the interview with Sanchez from CNN HQ in Atlanta on Thursday, which came about because Sanchez’ executive producer asked him to be booked on the radio show. “I didn’t really want him to do the radio show,” he said. “He’s not the type of guest we usually have on this show.”

Dominick said Sanchez came in Thursday with a “live grenade in his mouth,” and unleashed. “If Rick didn’t do it on my show, he would have done it somewhere else,” he said, apologizing to his family for Sanchez getting fired.

Dominick said he received emails of support from many people after the interview went viral, included two people at the center of the controversy. “Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart both complimented me in the way I handled myself, and it was extremely flattering,” he said. Dominick also said he’d go on Stewart’s show, Colbert’s or Howard Stern‘s radio show – but other than that, he won’t be talking about the interview.
