Russell Brand Fires Back at Bill Maher: He Seems ‘Worn Out’

During his final “New Rule” of the night this past week, Bill Maher took aim at comments made by Russell Brand in his new book Revolution about why he believes young people should not vote. This week, Brand responded to Maher’s criticism during an interview on HuffPost Live.

“Oh for fuck’s sake, fine. You know what? Don’t vote,” Maher said on Friday of Brand’s take on voting. “But don’t dress it up as something noble or sophisticated. The fake excuses offend me.”

“I don’t mind if people are offended,” Brand said of Maher. “It doesn’t make any difference to me.” He called Maher’s bit a “reductive” presentation of what he was trying to express in his book. “There is no point in voting, because there is no one that is representing the interests of ordinary people,” he reiterated, before laying the type of candidate that would get him to the polls.

“I’m optimistic about humanity, but Bill Maher’s been doing that job for a long time and I suppose it hasn’t made a lot of difference, so he’s probably a bit worn out,” Brand added. “But I believe in people.”
