Sarah Huckabee Sanders and April Ryan Have Strange Twitter Exchange Over ‘#PieGate’

Even though it’s Thanksgiving weekend and most Americans would prefer to relax, it seems that won’t stop the press and the White House from duking it out over who is more honest with the country.
American Urban Radio Networks White House correspondent April Ryan has gained quite a bit of media attention over the last few months due to a number of contentious exchanges with Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The White House Press Corps had a slow period this week due to the holiday, and Huckabee Sanders decided to tweet a picture of what her family had for dessert last night.
I️ dont cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm! pic.twitter.com/rO8nFxtly7

In response to this picture, Ryan wondered whether Sanders actually baked the pie herself:
Show it to us on a table. https://t.co/ifeSBlSZW7

And of course, Ryan was delighted when her tweet helped prompt Twitter sleuths to start circulating #piegate and demanding answers.
I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday! https://t.co/ifeSBlSZW7

Ryan kept things going by interacting with several tweeters on the subject.
OMG! Lie-abetes!!! flat line! https://t.co/Pkakl1HUXc

I doubt if @PressSec saw the movie the Help and knows anything about that pie @octaviaspencer carried! https://t.co/XvpAJu6gAO

See I know your husband cooks up a storm and I have eaten his food. Beautiful pic of your real pie. And I do not want to leave the impression I was to taste @PressSec pie. NOPE! Not at all. I hope they enjoyed the stock photo pie! https://t.co/pIkGtqzFa0

Ryan’s tweeting caught Sanders’ attention, and the press secretary says she’s prepared to prove her baking skills.
Don’t worry @AprilDRyan because I’m nice I’ll bake one for you next week #RealPie #FakeNews ;-) https://t.co/5W3mGbKs4J

For what its worth, Newsmax White House correspondent John Gizzi fully endorses this exchange:
I want to see this!
— John Gizzi (@johngizzi) November 25, 2017
I want to take pictures of @AprilDRyan getting goodies baked by @PressSec. As Harry Truman said, "This is one for the books."
