SC Gov Nikki Haley Endorses Marco Rubio
South Carolina Nikki Haley brought weeks of conjecture to a close Wednesday when she announced her endorsement for Sen. Marco Rubio, The Post and Courier reported.
Haley has not formally announced the endorsement yet, but she is scheduled to appear at a Rubio rally Wednesday evening in Chapin, South Carolina.
Haley had previously told reporters that she was still weighing her options — the only thing she would aver was that her endorsement would not be for Donald Trump, whom she has rebuked for “irresponsible talk” in public statements.
Haley is often described as a “rising star” in the GOP, having been tapped to deliver the party’s official rebuttal to the State of the Union address. She rose to national prominence last year after the racially-motivated shooting in a Charleston church catalyzed the removal of the Confederate flag from her statehouse grounds.
According to a RealClearPolitics average of South Carolina polls, Rubio is trailing Trump and Ted Cruz, but leading other party establishment candidates Jeb Bush and John Kasich, going into this Saturday’s GOP primary.
