Some MSNBC Staffers Reportedly Fuming Over Joy Reid Inaction: ‘It’s Just a Joke’

MSNBC’s Joy Reid apologized Friday over newly-unearthed blog posts of hers and the network is standing behind her. But some employees are stunned at the lack of action being taken.

Following the homophobic blog posts Reid said were posted by a hacker, this week posts of Reid attacking John McCain and sharing a 9/11 conspiracy documentary. And just today some additional posts have been uncovered.

According to The Daily Beast, Jonathan Capehart will be filling in for Reid on her weekend program AM Joy “at least one day this weekend.”

It’s unclear if this is related to the controversy, but as the Beast report reveals, people at the network aren’t happy with the overall handling of this mess:

Several employees who spoke to The Daily Beast—on condition of anonymity so as not to jeopardize their employment—said they were largely unimpressed with the statements, noting that many questions remain conspicuously unanswered.

“Everyone in the building is laughing at the idea that it was a hacker,” one MSNBC staffer told The Daily Beast.

“It’s just a joke,” another told the site.

While Reid is well-liked and respected by colleagues, said one staffer, they are waiting for Reid and MSNBC management to demonstrate a sense of accountability for her inconvenient past writing beyond boilerplate apologies. “It’s very problematic,” said an MSNBC insider.

One person invoked controversies surrounding comments made by other high-profile TV figures, saying, “Now she can’t talk about Samantha Bee, she can’t talk about Roseanne, she can’t talk about anything to do with Israel. What can she talk about?”

Reid has been criticized on both Fox News and CNN in the past day.
