Ted Cruz: Conservatives ‘Embarrassed’ to Vote for McCain in 2008
In an in-depth profile in the October issue of GQ, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) repaid Senator John McCain (R-AZ) for his “wacko birds” comment by claiming conservatives were “embarrassed” to vote for McCain in the 2008 election.
“I don’t know a conservative who didn’t feel embarrassed voting in 2006 or 2008,” Cruz told the magazine. “I think the Republican Party lost its way. We didn’t stand for the principles we’re supposed to believe in.”
(NB: also on the 2008 ticket was one Sarah Palin, who spent yesterday backing Cruz up on Twitter, Breitbart, and Fox.)

McCain called Cruz a “wacko bird” after the junior senator’s first couple months in office—a label Cruz has since worn as a badge of uncompromising conservative principals—and has generally opposed Cruz’s more pugnacious style of lawmaking. “He f***ing hates Cruz,” one McCain aide said of the Senator. “He’s just offended by his style.”
Cruz is currently engaged in a fight with members of the GOP over whether to defund ObamaCare through a continuing resolution to fund the government, a tactic that could result in a government shutdown.
