Ted Cruz: Menendez Targeting Sends Chilling Message to Obama’s Critics
Senator Ted Cruz thinks there’s something very suspicious about the timing of reports about the Justice Department planning to pursue criminal corruption charges against Senator Robert Menendez. When Menendez spoke at AIPAC earlier this week, he made it quite clear that he stands with Israel and will stand up to anyone in his own party on the matter.
So when reports of Menendez being charged bubbled up yesterday, some conservatives found the timing interesting. Well, according to The Hill, Cruz took those suspicions and ran with them in comments to reporters today.
Speaking in Iowa, Cruz said the timing is “awfully coincidental,” given how Menendez “showed incredible courage to speak out and call out President Obama for the damage that his policy is doing to our national security.”
And he even went so far to suggest it sends a chilling message to other Obama critics:
“It raises the suggestion to other Democrats that if you dare part from the Obama White House, that criminal prosecutions will be used potentially as a political weapon against you as well.”
