While Kennedy’s widow Vicki Kennedy has been mostly silent where the press is concerned, she has been the focal point of much of the coverage; she was captured by cameras at every turn stopping to greet mourner and shake hands. The Times ran a moving profile of her and Ted’s relationship, which amazingly began during the midst of the Kennedy-Smith rape trial debacle. Many people attribute their marriage as the reason Kennedy was so completely able to turn his life around in the last twenty years, the Times quoted one family friend saying “I don’t think there has been a partnership and a love story in American politics like this one.” Whether Viki will pick up politically where her husband left off remains to be seen.
