Terminally-Ill Star Wars Fan Who Got to See The Force Awakens Early Passes Away

Daniel Fleetwood, the Star Wars fan who was granted his dying wish to see the new film, has passed away.

Fleetwood, an avid fan since childhood, attracted attention around the Internet in recent weeks as friends and family worked to gather enough online support so that he could see The Force Awakens before he succumbed to spindle cell sarcoma. The #ForceforDaniel campaign ended up receiving the support of some of the biggest names from the franchise, and last week, director J.J. Abrams allowed Fleetwood to watch an unfinished rough-cut of the film.

The notice of Fleetwood’s passing was given this morning by his wife Ashley, on Facebook:

Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love. This was the last selfie we ever took together. #ForceforDaniel

May the Force be with you Mr. Fleetwood.
