That 107-Year-Old Who Danced With the Obamas Can’t Get a Photo I.D.

Last February, we brought you the heartwarming story of a 106-year-old woman who got to dance with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama in the White House. It was a big crowd pleaser! Sadly, not all that glitters is gold. The woman, Virginia McLaurin, has not been able to travel to do any media appearances since the clip went viral because she doesn’t have a photo I.D.

She lost hers a number of years ago and doesn’t have the necessary birth certificate to get a new one. Getting a birth certificate requires having a photo I.D. Here’s what she told the Washington Post:

I don’t think I’ll ever get that face card. I was birthed by a midwife and the birthday put in a Bible somewhere. I don’t know if they even had birth certificates back then.

She doesn’t need a photo I.D. to vote in D.C., so she is free to vote in the upcoming election, but she is still frustrated, according to her son, Felipe Cardoso. He said this:

She can’t understand how her picture could be in all those newspapers and all over the Internet, how so many people could recognize her on the street and want to take selfies with her, and she can’t even get a photo ID.
