In an interview on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) pushed back against President Donald Trump’s remarks during an interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly. Trump responded to O’Reilly characterization of Russian President Vladimir Putin being a killer by saying America is full of killers and isn’t all that innocent.
Bringing up the comments, host George Stephanopoulos highlighted a tweet from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in which the Florida lawmaker took umbrage with Trump equating US with Russia.
When has a Democratic political activists been poisoned by the GOP, or vice versa? We are not the same as #Putin. MR

Sasse responded in a similar fashion to Rubio, expressing confusion over what Trump was doing.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t know what the president is trying to do with statements like these,” the Nebraska Senator said.
He continued, “But let’s be clear. Has the US ever made any mistakes? Of course. Is the US at all like Putin’s regime? Not at all.”
After running down a list of freedoms America defends compared to Russia, Sasse then said there was no comparison between the two countries.
“There is no moral equivalency between the United States of America — the greatest freedom loving nation in the history of the world — and the murderous thugs that are in Putin’s defense of his cronyism,” Sasse stated.
