There Will Be a Reality Show About a Mission to Colonize Mars
There are reality shows about housewives and storage wars and duck calls, but if you think you’ve seen it all, here’s a new one: a reality show about a mission to colonize the planet Mars. No, you’re not hallucinating. That’s actually happening. A European production company called Endemol, best known for producing the original versions of the hit international shows Big Brother and Deal or No Deal, is teaming up with the Mars One project for a reality show about the selection process of people who will be sent to colonize the red planet.
The show will track the selection process, whittling down on a few dozen individuals from the hundreds who’ve applied, and making it a reality show was reportedly done because it was “crucial to securing the £3.6 billion in private funding for the one-way mission.”
Mars One’s mission plan is to have the first humans landing on Mars in 2025 and starting to colonize from there, and a second and third crew will follow soon after that. No word so far on whether Real Housewives of That Big Red Gassy Area is also in development.
