This Week in Buffalo Bills Tailgate Nonsense: Watch Some Guy Get Doused in Ketchup and Mustard
Last week, we posted about a fan in Buffalo who injured his leg in an ill-fated stunt during the Bills pre-game tailgate by jumping from an SUV on to a table — which went south when the table collapsed as the fan landed on it.
This week’s Bills tailgate nonsense was far safer, but no less ridiculous.
“Pinto Ron,” an area man who has reportedly attended 371 straight Bills games, is something of a legend at the Bills’ tailgate. According to CBS announcer Tom McCarthy, Pinto Ron got his name because of his 1980 Ford Pinto, which he actually uses as a grill to cook gameday favorites like hot dogs and hamburgers.
And before each game, Pinto Ron participates in something called the ketchup ceremony — in which he gets absolutely doused in condiments.
As part of the ketchup ceremony, several Bills fans climb atop a van and squirt ketchup and mustard at Pinto Ron until he (and the hamburger that he’s holding) are completely covered. Then Pinto Ron — who, at the end of the ceremony looks like a cross between Santa Claus and Big Bird — eats his burger.
