When New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady led his team on five consecutive scoring drives to bring his team back from a 28-3 deficit to win Super Bowl LI, he not only engineered the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, he also prevented any postgame chatter that he’d jinxed his team from winning.
Early in the season, Brady filmed a local commercial for Shields Health Care Group of New England. The premise was that Brady was going in for an MRI, and was asked to remove his jewelry. Brady removed four rings (clearly meant to represent Super Bowl rings) and placed them in a locker.
“Is that all?” Said an actress portraying a Shields employee.
“Actually, no,” Brady said, removing ring No. 5 from his pocket. “I forgot this one.
“It’s kinda new,” he said, with a sheepish grin.
The spot even came with a shot at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
“We’re gonna need to get you a bigger locker,” the Shields employee said.
Brady replied: “Roger that.”
