Trump Declares Devin Nunes ‘May Someday be Recognized as a Great American Hero’

President Donald Trump — who had a very busy Executive Time on Monday morning — took to Twitter to declare that Rep. Devin Nunes “may someday be recognized as a Great American Hero.”

Nunes, who compiled the controversial FISA memo — which purports to show abuses in the FBI and DOJ’s surveillance practices — released it with the blessing of Trump last week.

The Republican member of the House Intelligence committee has received much criticism thanks to his memo, from Democrats, the media and the intelligence community itself.

Democrats argue the memo is a cherry-picked distortion of reality intended to undermine the investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russia ties; members to the media have pointed out that Nunes had to recuse himself from the Russia investigation after it was revealed he was basically shilling for the White House; The FBI and Justice Department have decried the release of the memo, calling it “extraordinarily reckless.”

For Trump, however, Nunes is not a partisan hack, but quite possibly a “Great American Hero”:

“Representative Devin Nunes, a man of tremendous courage and grit, may someday be recognized as a Great American Hero for what he has exposed and what he has had to endure!” Trump tweeted.

Nunes appeared on Fox & Friends Monday morning — which the president was watching — to defend his memo and call out his Democratic colleagues for “spreading a false narrative.”
