Trump Is Reportedly Telling His Allies to Go Out On TV and ‘Bury Steve Bannon’

In the wake of the release of excerpts from Michael Wolff’s provocative Trump tell-all that included explosive and controversial remarks from former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump has been on the warpath. He’s released a statement absolutely torching his ex-advisor, labeled Bannon “Sloppy Steve” and let it be known that he is absolutely done with the Breitbart chief.

This morning, Bannon sent out an apology for his comments, specifically the ones directed at Donald Trump Jr. According to Axios, however, the mea culpa may be too little, too late for Trump.

As Axios’ Mike Allen noted during his appearance on CBS’ Face the Nation, “the president is telling his allies to go out on TV and bury Steve Bannon.” This comes on the heels of Axios reporting that the president was working the phones recently and telling his supporters and defenders that they needed to choose between him and Bannon.

We saw a key example of this early Sunday morning. During a heated and tense interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, White House senior policy advisor Stephen Miller spoke out forcefully against Bannon despite his longtime close association with the Breitbart leader. Tapper himself noted that Bannon apparently helped get Miller onto the Trump campaign.
