Trump on Lifting Media Blacklist: It’s Not Something of ‘Great Importance’
Mike Pence may have told Hugh Hewitt that the Trump campaign will do away with their media blacklist, but if the real estate mogul has anything to say about it, it won’t happen any time soon.
Hewitt held a wide-ranging interview with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Thursday morning, during which the radio host pointed out that banning the Washington Post and other news organizations from his rallies is not the “American way.”
Trump responded by blasting the “dishonest” media (again) and saying the ban is “something I don’t even think about,” even as Hewitt continued to encourage him to drop it.
“They’ve very much discredited themselves. People see what’s happening. It’s a pile-on, and I find it interesting,” Trump said. “I talk about it at the rallies. But you know, it’s something that is not of great importance.
Hewitt went on to point out that sending the press into exile gives Trump’s critics more ammo to call him “authoritarian,” and that it distracts from Hillary Clinton‘s rocky relationship with the media.
Trump said he understood this, but “the press is 100% on her side,” anyway.
