Trump’s Social Media Platform Truth Social Gets Mocked for Clunky Launch: ‘A Low-Energy Effort’

Donald Trump launched his new social media platform today, though the rollout is seeing a lot of mockery thanks to some early bumps out of the gate.
Months after Trump was banned from mainstream social platforms for inciting the storming of the U.S. Capitol, the former president touted the upcoming formation of a new online social forum as an extension of his recurring fights with tech companies. Devin Nunes, CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) says the website won’t be fully operational until the end of next month, but the site went live on Apple’s App Store in time for Presidents Day.
The launch, however, seems to be experiencing a few hiccups.
Even though Truth Social can be accessed through Apple, Vice News has noted that it’s not available on Android, nor does it have its own web page. For those who can access the platform, some have run into error messages while trying to create accounts, and there’s an apparent backlog since the waitlist for joining is over 100,000 people long as of this writing.
These technical flaws and others come after a reporter for The Daily Dot shared that he was able to access Truth Social’s beta version and register as “@realDonaldTrump,” which raises questions about the platform’s security. Truth Social also comes after websites like Gab, Parler and Rumble all previously touted themselves as pro-free speech alternatives to Twitter, but have yet to approach the popularity of the original.
As you might expect, Truth Social’s less-than-stellar launch has drawn ridicule:
I’m pretty sure “Truth” associated with Trump is the dumbest thing I’ve seen. But yours is pretty good, too. https://t.co/p27bmoEyHt

If you try joining Trump’s Truth Social app it just kicks you to a waitlist of 128,000 people. Reminds me of that scene in the hell waiting room in Beetlejuice. Lol. pic.twitter.com/Jdh7ev7PMw

The over/under on how long Trump’s latest grift “Truth” Social lasts is 3 months.
I’m taking the under.
How about you?

fwiw Trump actually has a good feel for coming up with nicknames and phrases that will stick in public conversation, but Truth Social is a low-energy effort. pic.twitter.com/X1zdEI4dWQ

The irony of Trump’s social media platform having the word “truth” in its title is hilarious. #TruthSocial

Pretty sure the “wait list” concept for Truth Social is among the dumbest things I’ve seen. Download app… complete sign in… and then be told your thousands deep in a “wait list”… That translates to “unlikely to open this app again.”

#TruthSocial is a perfect metaphor for Trump’s re-election. https://t.co/OoECT6loBC pic.twitter.com/2OeQqTa40U

Social media sadly thrives on conflict. #truthsocial (which is ironically named) will be boring and fail, because it will be all Trump-fed drones. BUT, please don’t come back to real social media if you left for Trump and Nunes great idea. You get your one shot. https://t.co/aOlw8m9dPp
