Twitter Has Field Day With Gun-Toting Guy Who Pledges to ‘Work For Free’ to Protect Schoolchildren

Ever since the horrific Marjory Stoneman Douglas Shooting, Fox News’ Sean Hannity has repeated a clarion call for campuses to hire retired military and law enforcement personnel to police our nation’s campuses, a variation on the “good guy with a gun” credo. He has also stated on multiple occasions that these retirees, having nothing better to do with their time, would likely work for free.
It wasn’t long before President Donald Trump himself repeated a variation on this claim, that law enforcement professionals would work security without asking for any money.
Now, one brave patriot has joined their crusade. A Twitter user named “ProudAmericanSoldier” has said that he would be glad to walk our beleaguered nation’s school campuses, fully armed and on the lookout for killers, and he’d so without the need for a paycheck.
I PLEDGE TO WORK FOR FREE for any school to help secure the children. I am a 29 year retired veteran, Infantry Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Ranger with combat experience. I have a conceal carry, Primary and Alternate side arms, an AR-15, and all necessary tactical gear. pic.twitter.com/d4fwovKBqf

He even posted a photo of himself, ready for action, using the tweet to list his many capabilities.
“I PLEDGE TO WORK FOR FREE for any school to help secure the children,” he wrote. “I am a 29 year retired veteran, Infantry Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Ranger with combat experience. I have a conceal carry, primary and alternate side arms, an AR-15 and all necessary tactical gear.”
Of course, some folks were rather unnerved at the thought of this guy roaming the hall of your average elementary school. Others just took to Twitter to make a mockery out of his pledge, and the photo that accompanied it. Here are some of the most scathing tweets.

As of this writing, it is unclear if the original poster got his wish and has been placed at one of our nation’s schools.
