Texas Governor Greg Abbott made it known today that he’s not particularly fond of the Republican elector in his state who declared his intention not to vote for Donald Trump.
In the electoral college vote yesterday, there were two defections from Trump in Texas––one for John Kasich and one for Ron Paul.
Chris Suprun got a lot of attention for saying earlier this month that he would not vote for a “demagogue” like Trump and would instead cast his vote for Kasich.
Obviously attempts to bail on Trump failed, and Suprun tweeted this out afterwards:
On today's setback:
We fought, we dreamed, and the dream is still with us. – Ronald Reagan, 1976#ElectoralCollege

Yesterday Abbott had this two say about the two vote defections:
This charade is over. A bill is already filed to make these commitments binding. I look forward to signing it & ending this circus. #txlege https://t.co/SaBWTWwkxS

And then on Twitter today he targeted Suprun directly:
@TheChrisSuprun: YOU'RE FIRED!!!
— Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) December 20, 2016
Suprun fired back with some tough words for the governor:
@GregAbbott_TX You mean I resigned.

@GregAbbott_TX PS Does this mean I can release tapes of your staff ignoring threats against Presidential Electors?

He only upholds the Constitution when it's convenient. #Sad He plays into every caricature of GOP not respecting individual liberty. https://t.co/H3Pf1EOe39

Nothing says impotent like being "fired" after casting my ballot. @GregAbbott_TX more interested in political points than policy. https://t.co/7H3BunxsMQ
