Walter Scott’s Family Plans to Sue Michael Slager, Police Dept.

The family of slain South Carolina man Walter Scott is planning to file a wrongful death and civil rights violation lawsuit against Officer Michael Slager, the cop who fatally shot Scott, and the North Charleston Police Department.

Slager, who was once accused of using excessive force with Tasers and is already being sued by a man making that very complaint, is currently in custody and being charged with murder.

Two attorneys representing the Scott family said today that they’re planning a lawsuit against Slager, the police department, and the city of North Charleston.

Attorney Justin Bamberg told The New York Daily News, “We will seek every penny of compensation that the family deserves. People in society are fed up with people getting away with things like this, fed up with law enforcement abusing the power that they have.”

He also brings up “questions about what transpired especially concerning the other officers” with respect to the shooting.
