Wow, here’s @SenFranken on Senate floor in 2010 talking about doing a show with “beautiful” @LeeannTweeden and “mostly right-wing” performers in 2006. “We loved each other” because of the USO shows. pic.twitter.com/h7brnIZuMY

The big story of the day (for now) is Sen. Al Franken’s alleged sexual assault against radio host Leeann Tweeden, with Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell calling for an ethics investigation and Franken, surprisingly, offering his full participation.
Franken has apologized and and said that his recollection of the incident differs from the one presented by Tweeden. One thing is for certain, however, the radio host certainly made an impression on the SNL alum when they performed together at a USO event in 2006.
The Minnesota senator spoke of this USO event on the House floor in 2010, in which he described Tweeden as “beautiful.”
“Let me tell you about one show I did,” he said. “I was kind of a co-host with a beautiful woman named Leeann Tweeden and we’d do comedy routines and introduce the music and introduce the cheerleaders.”
Tweeden has said that Franken forced himself on her, shoving his tongue down her throat during a rehearsal. Additionally, there is an incriminating photo that shows the senator groping her as she lay asleep.
Franken has said that he has no idea what was going through his head when the photo was taken and that it makes him feel “disgusted.”
“It isn’t funny. It’s completely inappropriate. It’s obvious how Leeann would feel violated by that picture,” he wrote.
