Colbert Delivers His Post-Super Bowl Kick-Off with an Appearance by Obama

Following last night’s big game, Stephen Colbert threw a Hail Mary by kicking off The Late Show live and it paid off. He did some standard late-night monologue comedy with a joke or two about the Super Bowl being old enough to enroll in AARP, then moved on to a game of catch played with Lt. Col. Christopher Landers all the way from Afghanistan, Chewbacca all the way from a galaxy far, far away, and a few other big names you just might recognize all the way from Washington, D.C.

You didn’t see Barack and Michelle Obama coming, did you? They rushed right in. The President even made a few late-night touch downs, joking about his pre-taped segment and, of course, National Treasure 3, which will center on the pre-determined list of Super Bowl winners for the next 50 years. The First Lady, too, was especially funny. You could say she took the ball and ran with it on that one.

The game of catch was funny and touching at times, too. It can’t be easy to be put in charge of the live broadcast following up the biggest television event of the year, so huge congratulations to Colbert and the rest of his creative team on the big win!

Later, Colbert had a very impressive selection of guests on the show, including Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, and Megyn Kelly, whose appearance was every bit as dramatic and shady as you hoped.
