WATCH: Rod Rosenstein Speaks With Senate Appropriations Committee LIVE STREAM

As Jeff Sessions prepares to speak before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will take his place before Senate Appropriations Committee in order to discuss the 2018 budget proposal for the Justice Department.

It is possible that Rosenstein might end up facing questions today about his involvement in President Trump‘s decision to fire former FBI director James Comey last month. While indications suggest that Trump fired Comey for not pledging his loyalty to him, Rosenstein previously wrote Trump a memo with a recommendation to fire Comey based on how he handled Hillary Clinton‘s email investigation.

The firing of Comey has been shrouded in intrigue, due to its connections to the ongoing investigations of whether the Trump Administration had any connections to Russian efforts to interfere with the 2016 election. Last night, Trump ally Chris Ruddy announced that the president was also thinking about whether he would fire Robert Mueller, who is currently leading the special investigation into Russia.

Rosenstein could face questions about the Mueller development, seeing as the firing of a special counsel would involve Justice Department regulations.
