WATCH LIVE: Deputy Press Sec Raj Shah Makes Briefing Debut After Trump Trashing Messages Revealed
Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah will fill-in for Sarah Huckabee Sanders at today’s press briefing. The briefing was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST — but has been pushed to 3:30 p.m.
It’s unclear why the briefing has been delayed by hours, but it might have something to do with the very bad press the White House has been getting this week. It might also have something to do with the fact that it was recently revealed Shah slammed his boss President Donald Trump as “a deplorable” in private messages during the 2016 election.
Many of today’s questions are likely to center around Rob Porter, the senior Trump administration aide who will resign at the end of the day due to multiple allegations of abuse and domestic violence. Porter denies the accusations and Sarah Sanders said his resignation was a personal choice yesterday, but there has been a lot of commotion about how Chief of Staff John Kelly previously defended Porter and wanted him to stay.
Shah will also probably take questions about whether President Donald Trump will release the Democrat’s rebuttal to last week’s GOP FISA memo containing claims of FBI malpractice and corruption. The White House is nearing the end of their allotted time to ask for redactions or block the memo’s release. Even though Devin Nunes‘ memo didn’t cause the political explosion some people were expecting, Congressional Democrats insist that their memo will add important context and new information on how investigators obtained a FISA warrant to investigate the Trump 2016 campaign.
Other topics likely to come up include the Congressional budget battle and whether Trump would ever agree to be interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
