A new report indicates that a lot of people in the White House are not happy with John Kelly after the Chief of Staff went to bat for Rob Porter before the latter resigned earlier today.
Porter was a Trump Administration senior aide who has been accused of physically abusive behavior by both of his ex-wives. Porter claims the allegations are “false” and “slanderous,” and Kelly stood up for him last night by calling Porter “a man of true integrity and honor” and a “trusted professional.” Kelly also encouraged Porter to “stay and fight” instead of walking away from his job.
Multiple sources have spoken to Vanity Fair‘s Gabriel Sherman, expressing disappointment in Kelly for defending his “friend” who didn’t even have proper security clearance when he used to review documents being sent to President Trump‘s desk.
“It’s beyond disbelief. Everyone is trying to figure out why Kelly is leading the charge to save him,” one source said. “How many times has Kelly put out a statement defending Trump?”
Porter has been described as one of Kelly’s closest allies in the administration, having helped him with his efforts to bring order and discipline to the White House months ago. Previous reports from Sherman suggest that Kelly might be on the chopping block in an upcoming White House shake-up, and Ivanka Trump is leading the charge of his removal.
