White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will meet the press corps in a briefing set for 2:00 pm ET.
Now that the Senate has passed that crucial vote to end the government shutdown (with 81 senators voting to proceed), this will certainly be the big topic of the day at the briefing. The White House and Republicans have branded the shutdown as the #SchumerShutdown, pointing the finger at Democrats and Chuck Schumer specifically.
Over the weekend, Vice President Mike Pence blasted Democrats in a speech to U.S. troops, saying, “A minority in the Senate has decided to play politics with military pay.”
As negotiations continued into the weekend, Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez said he would be willing to put the “idiotic” wall on the table in a potential deal if it means protecting the DREAMers.
Yesterday Huckabee Sanders tweeted, “Democrats can shut down the government, but not the booming Trump economy, millions of new jobs, low unemployment for women, blacks & hispanics, tax cuts for families and businesses, ObamaCare individual mandate repeal, or winning campaign to defeat ISIS.”
Meanwhile, Axios has obtained the draft of a White House infrastructure plan, so we may be at the start of another infrastructure week.
