Watch This Woman Make a Half Court Shot at Basketball Game, Then Get a Proposal From ‘Mascot’

Though they seem to go down with more frequency these days, half court shots are very difficult to make. They’re even more difficult to make when the shooter heaves the ball up baseball-style instead of taking a more conventional shot.

Thursday night at the Siena College men’s basketball game, Erin Tobin opted for baseball-style. And however optimistic she was about the shot going down, some in her circle were more skeptical.

“[M]y brother said he’d give me 50 dollars if I even hit the rim,” Tobin said, according to the Albany Times-Union.

Tobin launched the ball towards the goal. And sure enough, remarkably, it went off the glass, and in.

Unbeknownst to her at the time, Tobin’s boyfriend, Steve Duckett, was standing just a few feet behind her wearing the costume of the Dunkin’ Donuts mascot. His grand plan was to step in after Tobin — he assumed — missed the shot, drop to a knee, and ask for Tobin’s hand in marriage.

“I said to myself, ‘Of course she would hit the shot,'” Duckett said, per the Times-Union

Duckett popped out of the mascot costume and extended a ring to his stunned girlfriend.

“I turn around expecting a gift card from Dunkin’ Donuts and there he was on his knees and I didn’t have any words,” Tobin said.

Tobin said yes, and the couple walked away with a $500 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card (Really? Five hundred bucks for a half court shot?) and a ridiculously cool story.
